Opinion: Letters of the Week - Minister hits back at Woodcock claims on defence review

I was fascinated by John Woodcock's column, (PRWeek, 18 February) which discussed my area of ministerial responsibilities - defence.

I must tell him that I certainly see no sign of any pro-Government bias in the media.

John has his facts wrong. We never claimed the defence review was 'a once-and-for-all fix'. We said from the start it would take more than one review and financial planning round to sort out the decades-old resource problems.

John has fallen into the most obvious of traps, believing his own propaganda, something I always warned my clients against when I was a consultant. Now excuse me while I get back to sorting out the mess his government so thoughtlessly left behind.

Peter Luff, MP for Mid Worcestershire, minister for defence equipment, support and technology
