Public Affairs: The Week in Lobbying

Westminster Advisers has appointed a former adviser to the Australian government as a director. Gary Sargent advised the Australian Government on public/private partnerships.

More recently, he headed the London office of Australia's largest public affairs company, CPR.

In his role at Westminster Advisers he will focus on planning, transport and major infrastructure projects.

Populus has promoted director Rick Nye to its board, following the departure of founder and strategic director Andrew Cooper. The polling firm confirmed that Cooper was taking a leave of absence to become director of political strategy at 10 Downing Street. Michael Simmonds will continue as managing director.

BRUSSELS Hill & Knowlton has recruited Maud Garnier as senior consultant on its EU public affairs team. Garnier was previously head of legal and international affairs for the European Cosmetics Association.

CIPR Government Affairs Group (CIPR GAG) is planning to rebrand as CIPR Public Affairs (CIPRPA) to 'reflect the changes under way in the industry'. Members are being asked for feedback with a vote planned for this month's AGM.
