PUBLIC SECTOR: Burns heads comms at teaching body

The General Teaching Council, a new trade body for teachers set up by the Department of Education and Employment to promote best practice in the profession, has hired Maureen Burns as its first communications head.

by the Department of Education and Employment to promote best practice

in the profession, has hired Maureen Burns as its first communications

head.



She will oversee the set-up of the communications function and develop

PR strategy. Burns will take up the role at the beginning of May,

reporting directly to the chief executive Carol Adams. The role should

ultimately oversee a team of nine who will cover PR, policy and

publications. Burns currently works at the DfEE as a consultant in a

unit dealing with standards and effectiveness in the profession.
