Mobile phone network Orange has appointed Alison Palmer as UK media

relations manager.

Palmer replaces Jon Carter, who has moved internally to the company’s

strategic services department. She joins from BT where she headed PR for

three years within its global business marketing division.

In her new post, Palmer is responsible for all UK press relations and

will head all media and business-to-business dealings. She will lead a

team of six and reports to head of corporate communications, Denise

Lewis.

Lewis said: ’Alison has a crucial role to play in ensuring Orange’s

vision is understood clearly and simply in the media.’

The company recently appointed Cohn and Wolfe to handle global PR for

its Formula One sponsorship (PR Week, 7 April), and Palmer will be

involved in numerous other ongoing promotional sponsorship deals ranging

from the BAFTA awards to the Orange Prize for Fiction.

Orange currently serves six million UK customers and its existing

network covers over 80 per cent of the UK’s geographical area.

Palmer joins the company as Orange bids aggressively for a third

generation digital licence.
