Public Affairs: The Week in Lobbying

Shell has appointed former Conservative Party aide Jonathan French as London-based senior spokesman, global media relations.

French was most recently a freelance PR consultant, having previously worked at TLG Communications. He is also a former assistant director of media relations at the Association of British Insurers.

Open University director of government relations Martin Watkinson is to retire, triggering a recruitment process to find his successor. Previously director of strategy, Watkinson has worked for the Open University since 1977 in a variety of management roles.

The UK Individuals Shareholder Society is set to launch. The new shareholders' lobbying group will compete with UK Shareholders' Association, the independent organisation which represents the interests of private shareholders in the UK.

NETHERLANDS Weber Shandwick has recruited Wanda Cornelissen to lead its energy and infrastructure practice in The Hague. Cornelissen joins from her role as head of government relations and corporate external relations at Shell Nederland B.V. She was previously head of public affairs at the Municipal Port Authority Rotterdam.
