Computer networking conglomerate Cisco has appointed Insight
Marketing and Communications to its six-figure corporate PR brief after
a two-way pitch against Miller/ Shandwick Technologies. Band and Brown
Communications, the incumbent, did not repitch but continues to handle
Cisco’s pan-European PR with a 50 per cent increase in fees.
Cisco’s executive communications manager, Imogen Bailey, said the
decision to change its UK team was to maintain consistency of approach,
as other European countries had their own agencies.
According to Nick Band, CEO of Band and Brown, the UK PR work has been
mainly media relations, focusing on three key areas: small business,
internet providers and large corporations. ’The client wants a separate
team to work on it, with different personnel, which would have meant
hiring lots of new people,’ he explained.
Cisco will continue doing trade and technical PR in-house, after
increasing its team last month (3 December).
Cisco Systems is the world’s leader in networking systems for the
internet, with a market capitalisation of pounds 200 billion. The group
is second only to Microsoft on Nasdaq, the technology stock market. It
employs 20,000 people worldwide and turned over pounds 5.4 billion last
