- Freud Communications has appointed Edward Amory, political commentator at the Daily Mail, as strategic adviser. He will be in charge of developing a new educational advisory unit.

- Fleishman-Hillard has given John Saunders, regional president for continental Europe and Ireland, responsibility for the firm's operations in the UK and Africa, following the resignation of Kevin Bell last month.

- Porter Novelli has hired Shiny Red MD Helen Nowicka as head of UK social media and digital and EMEA digital and ex-JCPR MD Bettina Grant as consumer director.

- Kraft Foods has appointed Lindsay Kennedy as head of corporate comms for UK and Ireland, reporting to director of corporate affairs Jonathan Horrell.

- Third City, a new comms and digital agency, has been launched by former Band & Brown directors Graz Belli and Mark Lowe.

- Burson-Marsteller UK has recruited Sally Dobson, director of comms at The Social Market Foundation, to the new post of director of comms.

- Jay O'Connor, the 2010 president of the CIPR, has awarded honorary medals to Shami Chakrabarti, director of Liberty, and Adrian Wheeler, partner at Agincourt Communications, for outstanding contributions to PR.
