ISTANBUL: The public relations Association of Turkey (PRAT) has
appointed a new chairman for the next two years.
Meral Sackan, president of Istanbul-based MPR Halkla Iliskiler, is the
fifth chairman of the 28-year-old association.
Sackan replaces Alaeddin Asna, who is the chairman of Istanbul-based PR
agency A&B Tanitim, and was PRAT president for four years. Asna is one
of the founders of PRAT.
Sackan told PR Week that PRAT’s plans for the future include a national
PR awards ceremony, an expansion and improvement of its web site, and an
attempt to focus on education and training.
In addition to PRAT, Turkey has three more PR associations in Ankara,
Izmir and Bursa, as well as one in Turkish northern Cyprus.
Sackan said she hopes to gather all the PR bodies in Turkey under a
single federation to be known as the PR Association of Turkey.
