Public Sector: Eight ways to deal with cuts

A prominent local government comms boss has outlined eight points that council PR leaders should follow to minimise pain in the turbulent months ahead.

In his column for PRWeek, Brighton & Hove City Council head of comms John Shewell advises fellow comms chiefs to involve staff in the change management process, including the design and delivery of the change programme.

He adds that comms heads need to 'develop an explicit strategy to create a "learning organisation" - one that seeks to connect with its people, partners and the public by listening and responding by way of a continuous feedback loop'.

And he says the organisation should focus its campaigns on the big outcomes that matter most to residents.
