The charity's head of PR Nicola Dodd confirmed that talks were under way, but would give no further details.
'This is for a new activity that is currently in development and for that reason I can't discuss it in detail at this stage,' said Dodd.
However, an insider said: 'The brief is based on developing a celebrity campaign rather than a campaign based on any world events.'
Last October, Cancer Research UK was voted the UK's top charity by the public in PRWeek's Charity Brand Index. It knocked last year's winner Macmillan Cancer Support off the top. Now in its second year, the Charity Brand Index ranks UK charities by public perception and has been extended to include 125 charities.
Last July, Cancer Research UK launched a campaign that for the first time featured real doctors alongside cancer patients and survivors.
