Financial PR agency Finsbury is using its newest recruit to
spearhead the launch of a Europe-wide competition and regulatory affairs
Rory Chisholm, who joined the agency last week following the sale of his
former agency GJW to BSMG, this week unveiled FIPRA - Finsbury
International Political and Regulatory Advisors.
FIPRA is only the second public affairs agency to operate in every
EUmember state. The other is EPPA, whose leading competition consultant
Peter-Carlo Lehrell is leaving to head the Brussels arm of FIPRA.
With the exception of the London and Brussels branches of FIPRA, each
country ’unit’ will be a franchise operation, able to operate on its
own, but linked to FIPRA for local and cross border lobbying.
The London arm will be headed by Chisholm, while Brussels will be run by
Lehrell, as it is a joint venture between him and Finsbury.
Lehrell and Chisholm plan to have EU-wide coverage for FIPRA by the end
of 2000, with all but Finland set to be lined up within the next three
months. Uwe Jenssen, the former secretary-general of the SPD political
party in Bavaria, has set up FIPRA Deutschland Gmbh, while former Irish
senator Flor O’Mahoney will run the Dublin operation.
In a FIPRA document obtained by PR Week, Lehrell, who will also manage
the entire network, set out FIPRA’s aims: ’The European Commission is
taking an increasingly ’tough’ line, not only on merger cases but on
other competition policy issues. A specialised EU-wide service is needed
to meet these trends.’
