Fagan joins as Ruth Settle, group director of comms, leaves the company after eight years - the past 12 months of which were spent running ITV’s PR operation. It is understood her role has been scrapped.

The new group comms and corporate affairs role will see Fagan take responsibility for ITV’s corporate comms and programme publicity teams as well as its public affairs operation. She will report to ITV chief executive Adam Crozier and will join the management board.

Fagan, previously director of corporate and government affairs at the Royal Mail, starts the new role at the end of January.

Reporting to Fagan will be comms director Mike Large, director of programme publicity Zoe McIntyre and public affairs director Nigel Warner.
