DIARY: Sophie’s Rover win could threaten to leave her in the wrong driving seat

Unless you’ve been in Outer Mongolia during the past two weeks, you will know that R-JH, Sophie Wessex’s agency, has won a contract with Rover to handle celebrity associations and consumer media.

Unless you’ve been in Outer Mongolia during the past two weeks, you

will know that R-JH, Sophie Wessex’s agency, has won a contract with

Rover to handle celebrity associations and consumer media.

She has even gone as far as posing for publicity shots with the cars at

the Frankfurt Motor show. Unless it’s Max Clifford, the media are not

generally interested in PR agency client wins, but R-JH’s success was

splashed across the press.

One detail most people seem to have missed, however, is that Wessex does

not drive a Rover. This is despite a leasing agreement between Rover and

the Royal Family, which means royals can drive cars from across the

manufacturer’s range.

Colleagues at her office wearily confirmed this week (’yes this is her

agency, but, no, that does not mean we do the PR for her.’) that the

Countess of Wessex does indeed now drive a sleek silver Saab, having

previously been a Rover driver.

Apparently the switch was effected as soon as the engagement to Teddy

was announced. Will she be persuaded to back the British brand once more

in view of her latest client win?
