R-JH, the agency chaired by Sophie Wessex, is reviewing its future

engagements to ensure that this week’s Rover fiasco doesn’t happen

again.

’We are currently reviewing any situation that we think might present a

potential problem in terms of media interest,’ said Wessex.

Wessex wants to ensure that she is not perceived to be personally

endorsing any client’s product or service. The agency contract already

states that Wessex will not take part in photocalls. However,

photographs taken of her on the Rover stand at Frankfurt Motor Fair, led

to criticism and rumours that she was under pressure from the Palace and

St James’s to give up her career in PR.

According to Wessex, the photographs were taken during a client meeting

at the Motor Fair. She said that, realising she had been identified, ’it

seemed sensible for me to be photographed next to a Rover rather than

any other car’.

’Some of our clients had concerns about what had been written but that

was only natural,’ said Wessex. ’We need to get over this hurdle and to

emphasise to our clients that we are not about to receive any ultimatum

or cease trading.’
