DIARY: It took real wizardry to ward off London’s pigeons

Forster and Company had the ideal plan to raise awareness of the

plight of countryside birds for the RSPB last week.

The ’Skylarks and Scarecrows’ campaign was devised to raise publicity by

using celebrity clothing to dress bird-friendly scarecrows. Account

director Lisa Kinahan, organised a photocall at Marble Arch, featuring

scarecrows dressed in the distinctive outfits of celebrities Ali G,

Denise Van Outen, Ainsley Harriot and Linford Christie.

But her team didn’t bank on just how bird-friendly the celebrities’

clothing would prove. While they should have been attending to the needs

of hired celeb Lesley Joseph, or handling media enquiries, instead they

spent the morning trying to ensure there were no pigeons in the

snappers’ shots.

Kind write-ups in the tabloids suggest they pulled it off, and anyone

wanting to see the scarecrows for themselves should visit Whiteley’s in

London where they are exhibited until the end of March.
