DIARY: Why a PR man is letting a golden opportunity for self-publicity slip away

Keen amateur photographer Fraser Butters, managing director of

Harvard Centro, is looking forward to meeting famous photographer David

Bailey next week.

Bailey, who had a retrospective at London’s Barbican art complex

recently, has been persuaded to endorse colour printers made by Lexmark,

a new client of Harvard PR.

As part of a pounds 1 million marketing initiative, Bailey will feature

in a nationwide advertising and PR campaign breaking this month.

The advertising will feature framed images of Bailey himself carrying

the strapline: ’Output so good you could frame it and call it a David

Bailey.’

The agency has been briefed to promote the photographer’s endorsement in

a broad consumer campaign, targeting the national media.

Butters will be meeting Bailey next week to run over the events and

promotions that the agency plans.

But although he’s a keen family photographer, he swears he won’t turn up

brandishing his own work.

’I don’t think I will be showing him my snaps as it could be a bit

embarrassing,’ explains Butters, delicately.
