PUBLIC SECTOR: Hammersmith struggles to fill new PR role

The London Borough of Hammersmith’s intended move ’away from press relations towards PR’ (PR Week, 26 March) appears to be on hold. The council has joined the list of London boroughs which have fallen foul of the lack of interest among PR professionals in working for local government. Peter Savage, head of council services, said that the council would now ’assess alternative measures’, including looking at its communications structure and reconstructing the job description, in order to attract the right candidate. The original aim of the post, created just this year, was to promote links with the community and head internal and external communications.
