Parsons only joined the company on 28 June, but he left without a job to go to in mid-November. Ahmed said the decision for him to leave was ‘mutual’ and said he was currently spending time with his family before looking for a new role in January. He was previously director of sport liaison at The British Olympic Association.

Ahmed has been at the company since 2003, most recently as head of consumer PR. She is the creative brains behind the company’s attention-grabbing stunts including launching mobile hotel rooms, sleep suits and cuddle pillows for hotel guests.

Last week, Travelodge made the papers with its survey that said 72 per cent of British adults check status updates on Facebook just before they go to bed.
