Edelman PR has lost the two most senior members of its financial PR

Last Friday, Carol Ruth, the New York-based managing director of

Edelman’s financial arm, left to start her own agency. Andrew Dewar, a

senior financial consultant based in Paris, has also left to start his

own agency in France.

Ruth was central to Edelman’s plan to build an international financial

PR business. She was recruited two years ago, and her appointment was

followed in November 1998 by the arrival of Kirsty Macmaster as European

financial PR head.

But Macmaster left in February this year, claiming she had been given

insufficient backing to build a serious financial practice.

Macmaster had reported to Ruth, along with Raymond Siu, head of

Edelman’s financial practice in Hong Kong. But after her departure Ruth

was told that her remit would be restricted to New York, and that Siu,

and the local financial teams, would report to their country

Dewar was previously head of Edelman’s financial practice in London, but

left for Paris when Macmaster arrived. It is understood he did not get

on with Ruth.

Edelman is now searching for people to head its six-strong financial

team in London, and its 18 New York consultants.

’We are committed totally to succeeding in the financial business,’ said

Edelman worldwide president and CEO Richard Edelman.

Neither Ruth nor Dewar were available for comment.

Macmaster has since started her own agency, specialising in investor

relations, PR and financial marketing.
