This provides popular book authors with opportunities to work with studios on developing vital plots and showcase their work to a different audience.

JCPR's Warder says: 'There is a genuine respect for the craft of storytelling in video games, which demonstrates that the stories and plots can be compelling and engaging as well as the game play.'

In the past, games based on work by leading authors Tom Clancy and Stephen King have been created by game developers, as well as script writers, as was the case when James Bond's screenwriter was drafted in to work on the Blood Stone game.

But these have met with a mixed reaction. It is vital that, when putting your author forward to work on a game, key themes are communicated to the studio along with ensuring there is broad author awareness.

Say Communications MD Louise Stewart-Muir says: 'F13 was a short story and the first game Stephen King produced. It was felt that the content lent itself to a game. But the reviews weren't overly positive as it was felt the designers hadn't read much of the author's work.'
