Edelman PR Worldwide has won the four-way pitch to handle PR for

the British Airways London Eye covering consumer marketing and public

affairs initiatives.

The year-long contract has six-figure fees. The team will be headed on

the consumer side by Ash Coleman-Smith, managing director of consumer

marketing, Europe, while public affairs will be handled by Nick Archer,

divisional director at Edelman.

They will work closely with the in-house team and report to BA media

relations manager Kate Gay.

Coleman-Smith said Edelman would work to ’position the Eye as a national

icon, which adds to the richness of London’.

Like many of the capital’s millennium projects, the London Eye was

dogged by problems at the start. However, it has largely avoided the

criticism aimed at attractions such as the Dome, which appointed Edelman

earlier this year, and more recently the Millennium Bridge.
