Is being or having a spin doctor really that bad these days?
The Hinckle and Bosworth Borough Council in Leicestershire seems to
think so. A recent job ad suggested that the organisation is terrified
of having some power-crazed publicity supremo stalking its corridors and
dictating the communications strategy.
Just in case any applicant was unsure about the level of power the job
involved, the ad was headlined: ’Spin doctors. Beware the dog!’.
It read: ’The last thing we want in our new communications and
promotions officer is a minor spin doctor. Our officers wouldn’t take
too kindly to being told to stay ’on message’.’
However, it does say that ’if you can influence outcomes and your
communications advice is taken seriously’, you should come forward.
