BOSTON: Public affairs specialist GPC International is extending
its network into the US following the acquisition of McDermott/O’Neill
The deal is believed to involve a mixture of cash and stock from
Omnicom, GPC’s parent company, thought to be worth over pounds 10
million on an earnout basis. The name of the agency becomes GPC/O’Neill
The agency, founded in 1991, has offices in Washington, Boston and Rhode
Island, and has 45 consulting staff.
McDermott/O’Neill and Associates posted total fee income of pounds 23.5
million last year, which would position the agency at number 16 in the
PR Week US Top 200. Clients include Xerox, PricewaterhouseCoopers and
Chairman Thomas O’Neill has been named CEO of GPC’s US operations.
’We were looking for a firm that shared our values,’ said Hershell
Ezrin, CEO of GPC International.
’Tom and his group have one of the strongest independent public affairs
businesses in the country.’
According to Geri Denterlein, senior vice-president of GPC/O’Neill, ’in
order to take the next step up the ladder, it’s important to be part of
a wider network’.
Denterlein said GPC/O’Neill would consider expansion both through
organic growth and acquiring other agencies elsewhere in the US.
The move increases GPC’s global offering to 27 offices in 16 countries
and over 500 consultants. Its work will include legislative and
executive advocacy, public policy development, constituency building,
crisis communications, media relations and marketing.
