UNICEF UK has appointed Angela Travis as its new head of

Travis reports to and replaces Anita Tiessen, who was promoted in March

(PR Week, 31 March) to the role of deputy executive director,

programmes, at the organisation.

Tiessen, who was in the communications role for eighteen months, took

over her new role last week.

The communications team, for which Travis is responsible, is made up of

11 people, comprising three units: press and PR, parliamentary work and

information services. The head of communications controls an annual

budget of pounds 600,000.

Travis is charged with continuing to raise awareness of UNICEF and its

work, and attracting increased levels of support for its activities from

within the UK. Her main tasks will be to increase the organisation’s

media profile, to lead its campaigning work and to take it forward in

new media.

Over the coming months she will be focusing on the organisation’s

’Growing Up Alone’ campaign aimed at helping children who are alone

because of poverty, conflict and/or HIV/Aids, in addition to working on

UNICEF’s relaunched website.

Travis brings ten years’ experience in the international charity

communications field, having worked for Oxfam, Voluntary Service

Overseas and latterly as operations manager for Jubilee 2000.
