BRUSSELS: Public affairs shop GPC has promoted two members of staff

to head sectoral practices. Michelle Gibbons has been promoted to head

the food health and consumer practice, the agency’s second largest in

Brussels.

Until now board director Thomas Bols had overall responsibility for this

practice, but Bols will now assume a more hands-off role.

Gibbons joined GPC in 1997 and has been running client accounts for

Sainsbury’s and Scottish and Newcastle since then. She is also in charge

of GPC’s relations with its Irish partner consultancy, Political

Communications.

Sylvain Lhote has become joint head of GPC’s environmental practice

alongside senior consultant Agathe Jagiella. Jagiella has been in

control of this unit on her own since the departure of former practice

head Louise Tinkler to an associate directorship in London earlier this

year.

Lhote also joined the agency in 1997, from the Belgian office of oil

company Elf Aquitaine. His main client to date is the Association of

Plastics Manfacturers in Europe. He is also working on integrating the

work of Paris’ Communication and Institutions, an agency in which GPC

took a stake last month. Both practice heads will report to GPC Brussels

managing director Caroline Wunnerlich.

- GPC’s North American office has appointed John Huenemann as

vice-president of international trade reporting to CEO Thomas O’Neill.

Huenemann was in the Office of the US Trade Representative for 15 years,

most recently as assistant US trade representative for North American

affairs. He served as chief strategist and negotiator for the North

American Free Trade Agreement talks.
