Opinion: From our readers - H&F is seeking best deal for taxpayers

In response to your article (DCLG stands firm on ban', News, 29 October).

Hammersmith & Fulham Council is looking to maximise value for its taxpayers. We are not commissioning a newspaper. We are simply looking to enter into a contract that gives our residents a great deal on low advertising rates and low communication costs. The news provider that we choose to enter into a contract with will always be 100 per cent independent of us.

For many years, the newspaper industry has been calling for councils to use local newspapers to communicate to residents rather than setting up their own publications. This is exactly what we are doing.
