23 October - There were only 361 million internet users in 2000, in the entire world. Putting this into perspective, that is barely two-thirds of the size of Facebook today. There are more than five times as many web users now as there were in 2000. The number of users in the world is now close to passing two billion and may do so before the end of this year. The internet has not just become larger, it is also becoming more global.
