What is it good for?
Shameless people-watching, for a start. Its location in Hale Village, glass frontage and outdoor seating all make for a very sociable lunch. Great for afternoon drinks and snacks in the summer, with an intimate layout inside providing a cosy atmosphere in winter.
Locally sourced food is used, so it all tastes lovely and fresh and the menu changes quite frequently. It used to be the amazing butternut squash, feta and mint salad, but currently the fish and chips gets my vote.
Who's the boss?
Simon Rimmer, of Greens Vegetarian Restaurants, The Accidental Vegetarian and Something for the Weekend.
All salads and meat-free meals are top notch. The Sunday lunch was voted best Sunday venue outside London by Square Meal. And the restaurant regularly holds Gourmet Evenings with Rimmer.
What's the damage?
The Earle Classics menu is simple, quick and easy, with main courses just £9.95.
