Public Sector: The Public Sector Week

CIPR, LGA and LGComms held a joint meeting on Tuesday to discuss the revised Code of Recommended Practice on Local Authority Publicity.

A joint position will be relayed to the Department for Communities and Local Government by 10 November.

Stockport Council director of comms Ian Ratcliffe has urged European public sector comms directors to prove their worth. Ratcliffe was speaking at the inaugural European Conference on Public Communications held last week at the European Parliament in Brussels.

Comms staff leaving the 192 axed quangos could face a tough time seeking jobs in the private sector, a senior agency director has warned. Fishburn Hedges MD Fiona Thorne said she was already seeing an influx of CVs from staff currently at quangos: 'It's going to be challenging for people who have been exclusively in the public sector to date.'

London Thames Gateway Development Corporation's contract with Connect Public Affairs was questioned by Burton and Uttoxeter MP Andrew Griffiths in Parliament on 11 October. Local Government minister Bob Neill said a copy of the contract had been placed in the library of the House. He revealed the contract with Connect has now been cancelled.
