Indy title in comms drive

W Communications has been given the task of drumming up publicity for the new 'distilled' version of The Independent newspaper, which goes on sale on Tuesday.

The consumer agency has been appointed by Independent News & Media to handle the launch of its new national newspaper i, working on a comms strategy across broadcast and trade media.

The new title goes on sale nationwide on 26 October for 20p.

Simon Kelner, editor-in-chief of The Independent, said it was aimed at readers 'suffering from information overload who want a comprehensive digest of the news'.

W Communications is run by MD Warren Johnson. The agency's appointment follows its work for The Independent in the run-up to this year's general election in May.
