The Dixons Group is seeking to appoint a single agency to work
across its three core brands - electrical retail outlets Dixons, Currys
and The Link. The move follows the appointment of Hamish Thompson as
head of press and PR.
’We are shortlisting agencies for Dixons, Currys and The Link at the
moment,’ said Thompson. An announcement is expected in six weeks
’The account has been managed in-house for some time, but after a review
of the competitive marketplace, we have decided to appoint an outside
agency,’ he said.
Thompson said the in-house team of five would remain to manage
relationships with new and existing PR agencies. He said he would also
examine the group’s press-office structure. ’I will look at what
additional enhancements can be made, and what new methodology can be
introduced to broaden the message,’ he explained.
Thompson has a brief to develop and steer the PR strategy for all the
group’s retail and non-retail brands, including Dixons, Currys, PC
World, The Link, @Jakarta and Mastercare. He reports to Lesley Smith,
group director of corporate affairs. Thompson joins from technology
investment bank Broadview International, where he was European
Dixons currently uses Square Mile for corporate and financial PR, and is
expected to confirm an agency to work on the PC World account imminently
(PR Week, 12 May).
