DIARY: Rivalry turns sour as Band and Brown threatens legal action

Band and Brown Communications was none too happy to discover

recently that rival tech agency Bite Communications had rather cheekily

bought the domain name ’bandandbrown.com’.

The amusing antics all started when, as a joke of course, Band and Brown

sent Bite’s staff e-mails about new jobs. Managing director Clive

Armitage took umbrage at the move and decided to ’bite’ back.

Band and Brown, which is already registered as bbpr.com, initially

thought it was a wind-up.

However Nick Band, chairman and chief executive, soon realised

otherwise.

’They really are paranoid, but Bite is so unoriginal I can understand

why they did it,’ he said.

Of course, Armitage claims it was all done as a practical joke and the

disputed domain name has now been relinquished.

He was hoping that Band and Brown would see the funny side of it. But

tell that to Band, who has already contacted his solicitors on the

grounds of suing for trademark violations.

These PR jesters really do go to ridiculous lengths to put smiles on

each others faces.

Nonetheless, there is nothing like some good rivalry to keep us amused.

Keep it up.
