WELLINGTON: The New Zealand Stock Exchange (NZSE) has caused

ripples in the country’s PR community by hiring the Wellington office of

Shandwick International.

The agency recently threatened legal action against the Public Relations

Institute of New Zealand (PRINZ) to stop the institute releasing the

results of an investigation into aspects of Shandwick’s work for

state-owned enterprise, Timberlands.

Shandwick’s tactics were alleged to have included establishing a bogus

organisation to support Timberlands’ logging of native forest.

The NZSE has faced a barrage of criticism for the poor performance of

the market and over plans to merge with its Australian counterpart.

Shandwick New Zealand CEO Klaus Sorensen says there are ’a number of

misconceptions about the NZSE which we are setting out to clear up’.
