Sellafield snares Rolls-Royce's Gordon Welsh for key comms role

The former head of communications for Rolls-Royce's second largest business division is taking up a new role in the nuclear industry.

Gordon Welsh has been appointed to the newly created post of head of employee communications at Sellafield, the company created from BNFL. Sellafield is now responsible for safely delivering decommissioning, reprocessing, nuclear waste management and fuel manufacturing activities on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.

Welsh previously spent nine years at Rolls-Royce Marine, where his responsibilities included looking after comms for the company's nuclear submarines business.

He has also worked as a journalist and served as NATO spokesman in Bosnia in the late 1990s.

Welsh commented: ‘Nuclear is a really interesting and exciting sector to be working in just now and I am very much looking forward to my new role.’
