Public affairs consultancy APCO is prowling for top level staff, and appears to have selected Shandwick as its first target.

Public affairs consultancy APCO is prowling for top level staff,

and appears to have selected Shandwick as its first target.

Shandwick Washington’s Candida Sampson has joined the agency as a

director, bringing with her 12 years’ experience in PR.

London-based Shandwick director Alan Butler is moving to APCO later this

year from his position in the financial services and telecoms

division.

’We are looking to strengthen our senior management team over the next

several months, to build new practice areas,’ APCO UK MD Nick DeLuca

said.

Sampson, who was a senior vice-president for media relations in

Washington, has been brought in to help grow APCO London’s integrated

communications offering.

She will head APCO’s strategic communications unit, working closely with

Nick Andrews, European managing director of strategic

communications.

Butler is expected to be a key player in APCO’s developing financial

services division on an international basis.

While Sampson starts this week, Butler’s start date is yet to be

confirmed.

DeLuca said APCO’s global public affairs covering, with offices in Asia,

the US, Canada as well as across Europe was proving attractive.

APCO, which is headquartered in Washington, DC, is still hunting for

staff, hoping to boost and develop other areas of its business including

competition, trade, healthcare and aviation.

’The market’s changing. There’s been a lot of moving in the public

affairs industry. We want to continue investing in people,’ DeLuca said.
