Chessington World of Adventures’ PR manager and marketing manager
have both left the theme park. Their departures come at a time in which
the organisation is changing the way it handles PR.
PR manager Claire Meal, and head of consumer marketing Virginia Dick (to
whom Meal reported) both left the park within the past few weeks.
Meal, who joined at the park’s launch nine years ago, has started her
own PR firm, while Dick has joined First Choice Holidays.
It is six months since the theme park appointed head of marketing Chris
Welch from food company CPC.
PR executive Emma Hart has been left in charge of the park’s
communications, aided by Hill and Knowlton. She reports straight to
H&K, which was appointed by Welch in March, masterminded the PR activity
around last weekend’s launch of ’Action Man Critical Mission’ - a
special ride for the under-10s. But the agency will also now provide
strategic PR input on an on-going basis.
Chessington was turned from a zoo into an adventure park in 1988.
Although the park drew 1.7 million visitors last year it slipped from
fourth to fifth in the ranking of Britain’s most popular theme and
Alton Towers, Madame Tussaud’s, The Tower of London and Canterbury
Cathedral were the four top venues.
