Powerscourt to assist Irish Government with banking comms.

The Irish Government has engaged Powerscourt to support comms around the restructuring of the country's banking system. Last week the Irish Central Bank pledged to increase support to the sector, with the bail-out of Anglo Irish Bank costing as much as EUR34bn. Powerscourt founder Rory Godson will lead the account.

Lloyds Banking Group has appointed Ian Kitts as head of media relations for its wholesale banking division. He joins from law firm White & Case where he served as EMEA head of comms.

Fishburn Hedges has created a Pensions Advisory Unit, a specialist team to handle comms around pensions. The team will be headed by Fishburn Hedges director Andy Berry and includes Neil Hedges, the consultancy's chairman; Jason Nisse, head of emergency relations; Nick Wright, employee engagement director; and Dermot Finch, Fishburn's recently arrived head of public affairs. It will offer services from media relations to consumer-facing statements, discussions with regulators, employee engagement and digital comms.

Cognito, the financial technology PR specialist, has opened a regional HQ in Singapore. The office will be led by Anne Karumo, previously at Texas Instruments and Wall Street Systems.

AEGON Asset Management has brought in ING's Karen Bennett to head global corporate comms activities. She will be based in London and will be responsible for comms across Europe, Asia and the US. At ING she was head of marketing and comms for its insurance and asset management business in Asia.
