Planning specialist PPS creates wider lobbying offshoot

Planning lobbying specialist PPS, the UK’s fastest growing PR

agency over the last five years, has branched out into mainstream public

affairs with a second string agency.

PPS Public Affairs launches this month under MD Mark Pendlington, an

adviser to the Thatcher and Major governments and former Bell Pottinger

public affairs director.

Pendlington has a start-up team of four, several of whom he has poached

from rival consultancies. He is in talks with lobbying agencies in

Brussels and Washington DC to form affiliate relationships - PPS’ first

venture outside the UK.

The new agency aims to bring campaigning skills honed by PPS’ ten years

in planning consultancy to broader lobbying work, partly through new

technology modelled on the Washington DC public affairs scene.

The agency will start off by handling existing PPS clients, liaising

with PPS offices in Edinburgh, Manchester and Bristol. PPS will be

rebranded as PPS Local and Regional.

Pendlington said: ’Public affairs is so much more than press releases

and meeting top politicians. We will concentrate on building coalitions

and mobilising key stakeholders and third party support to influence

Government.’ He added that he plans to recruit further staff in due

course.
