DIARY: Consultant aims to bring the PR industry to book

Quite what blockbusting novelist John Grisham has done for the legal industry - on which he bases his thrillers - we don’t know.

Quite what blockbusting novelist John Grisham has done for the

legal industry - on which he bases his thrillers - we don’t know.

But whatever it is, author and sometime PR consultant David Michie is

threatening to do the same for the PR industry, with the publication of

the first thriller set in the PR world, Conflict of Interest.

Published by Little, Brown, Conflict of Interest follows the story of

Chris Treiger, who has been hired by top London PR firm Lombard.

While readers from the wider community will enjoy the thriller, those in

the know can have hours of fun speculating on which agency Lombard is

really based, and identifying the real Mike Cullen. Naturally we have

our own ideas here, but fear of legal redress prevents us from

discussing them in these pages.

Michie is no more illuminating: ’While the mannerisms of certain

characters are instantly identifiable, all of the cast are composite.

Having been through the libel grind with my last book, it can’t be any

other way.’
