DIARY: Playwright exploits his marriage to the PR mob

You may have heard, by now, of Original Spin, the play commissioned by GCI. It had a gala performance at the Criterion theatre this week which, by all accounts, was a most enjoyable evening. Keen viewers may have even picked up on a reference to PR Week - although sadly this is a reference to one of the character’s personal diaries and not this august journal.

You may have heard, by now, of Original Spin, the play commissioned

by GCI. It had a gala performance at the Criterion theatre this week

which, by all accounts, was a most enjoyable evening. Keen viewers may

have even picked up on a reference to PR Week - although sadly this is a

reference to one of the character’s personal diaries and not this august

journal.

The play was commissioned by GCI to celebrate the millennium, with

clients and friends. As to claims that the play portrays the world of PR

with ’accuracy and humour’ - PR Week thinks the PR professionals should

be the judge of that.

However as the playwright, Simon Warne, happens to be the husband of

Catherine Warne, who is GCI’s head of healthcare, the claims of accuracy

are more than likely to be true.

The play will continue its run at the New End Theatre, Hampstead until 2

April.

PR Week would now like to see a PR agency commissioning a rock opera,

’Timmy’, an epic poem, ’The Once and Future King of Spin’, and perhaps

even a ballet - ’Spin Lake’. Or is the idea of portraying PR men in

tights just tu tu much?
