David Walker, the Audit Commission's MD for comms and public reporting, is leaving in October. Walker has no job to go to, but said he was looking forward to making a contribution to debate about public services, drawing on his experience at the commission.

Department for Communities and Local Government permanent secretary Irene Lucas has apologised for her civil servants issuing overtly political press releases. Lucas took the step after John Denham, Labour MP for Southampton Itchen, wrote to complain of 'creeping politicisation'.

Karol Marketing has been brought in by Northumberland County Council in a bid to reach and communicate with its residents through social media platforms.

COI press officer Elizabeth Leonard was thanked by HRH Prince Charles for her services after working on 200 Royal visits during 31 years. Taking time out from his nationwide tour, the Prince praised the COI's Nottingham employee, who retires in October.
