LISBON. Turismo di Lisboa, Lisbon’s tourism promotion agency, has
appointed PR agencies in six European countries in a bid to encourage
consumers and businessmen to visit the city.
The agencies selected were: LPM in Portugal, TT&A in Italy, Agentur in
Germany, I&E in France, EC&P in Spain and Affinity in the UK. LPM will
co-ordinate the account, which is being handled by three of the agency’s
staff, including managing director Luis Paixao Martins.
The six firms have been briefed to capitalise on the improved transport,
leisure and conference facilities Lisbon gained as a result of hosting
Expo ’98. This involves media relations to attract both consumers on
holiday and businessmen on conferences.
Turismo di Lisboa is an umbrella organisation whose members include
Portuguese airline TAP Air Portugal, the Four Seasons Hotel and the
Portuguese post office.
Affinity managing director Steve Dunne said: ’Our job is to increase the
number of visitors to Lisbon significantly. Expo ’98 was very successful
and Turismo di Lisboa wants to keep up the momentum.’
