The Virgin Mobile arm is looking to infiltrate the college and
university sector by drafting in an army of students to carry out
marketing and public relations tasks during their full-time studies.
Each student will receive a wage, a free phone and the chance to run
their mobile for free by earning extra airtime vouchers. It sounds like
every undergraduate’s dream come true.
Thirty-five students have already been appointed as brand managers and
Virgin, which has teamed up with marketing agency Get Real for the
project, is looking to recruit hundreds in the next academic year.
Virgin Mobile head of public relations, Steven Day, said: ’Who better to
use than students - what can we teach them? We’re just old farts.’
