Jospin appoints Clap to oversee press relations

PARIS: Isabelle Clap has been appointed as the new press secretary to French Prime Minister Lionel Jospin.

PARIS: Isabelle Clap has been appointed as the new press secretary

to French Prime Minister Lionel Jospin.

Clap previously held a similar position at the Ministry of Economy,

Finance and Industry, where she headed press relations for then-Minister

Christian Sautter. Before taking on her new position, she was head of

institutional PR for EuroDisney at its Marne-la-Vallee headquarters.

Besides heading press relations for Jospin, Clap will also serve as his

technical adviser on the press. This is a major position as Jospin has

recently begun making preparations for municipal elections to be held in

March 2001.

The role will also cover his expected candidacy for the French

presidency.

Elections are planned for May 2002 at the latest, when Jospin is

expected to run against current head of state Jacques Chirac.

Jospin decided to call in Clap after making a number of statements

recently which earned him criticism in the French press. During a visit

to Israel this year, he condemned the Hezbollah guerillas, offending

France’s traditional Arab allies in the Middle East.
