DALLAS: Two leading fast food restaurant chains are beefing up
their PR operations.
Pizza Hut has hired Patty Sullivan as director of PR, joining from the
Dallas office of Edelman PR Worldwide.
The post had been vacant since former incumbent Jay Allison left to
become general manager of PR for Porsche Cars across North America.
Based in the chain’s Dallas headquarters, Sullivan will oversee all
aspects of external PR, including product publicity, brand positioning,
crisis communications and community affairs. Pizza Hut’s PR budget is
thought to be in the multi-million pound range.
Meanwhile Taco Bell, based in Irvine, California is set to appoint a PR
manager to head its brand communications.
The chain, which boasts a PR budget in the region of pounds 400,000 each
year, is reportedly close to filling the PR manager slot, according to
Amy Sherwood, vice-president of PR for both Pizza Hut and Taco Bell’s
parent company Tricon Global Restaurants.
Both chains, along with KFC, were owned by soft drinks giant Pepsi until
the company created Tricon, three years ago. Since then, the company has
used PR to maintain brand identity for the individual chains while
simultaneously attempting to bolster awareness of the new Tricon name.
