The public services watchdog is scheduled to close in 2012, and 48 comms professionals will lose their jobs (PRWeek, 20 August).
But Audit Commission managing director, comms and public reporting David Walker told PRWeek: 'Comms will be wound down in response to ongoing work. The volume of work will tend to head downwards after April 2011. We're not replacing people who have left.'
Walker added that he had no firm plans to move on but would consider other comms jobs or a return to journalism.
Walker was formerly editor of Public, The Guardian's monthly magazine for senior public managers.
