Publisher Emap is due to appoint an agency to promote
newly-acquired titles Arena and The Face.
The brief is to generate a higher profile for the titles through
consumer and trade PR. Emap is understood to want to reinforce Arena’s
position as an upmarket title and provide more day-to-day promotional
support for The Face.
Nial Ferguson, group marketing director for men’s titles within Emap
Metro, said the company was setting in place a marketing strategy for
the titles. The chosen agency will be appointed on a long-term, rather
than project, basis. ’We want somebody who will stay with us,’ said

The titles were acquired when Emap bought their publisher, Wagadon, for
pounds 20 million two months ago.
Emap’s determination to drive Arena upmarket was confirmed earlier this
month when deputy editor, Greg Williams was appointed to succeed Ekow
Eshun as editor.
The Face has a circulation of 57,000 and Arena sells 46,777 copies on
