MEDIA: Worldpop adds to management

Worldpop.com, the pop music portal, has announced several additions to its management line-up.

Worldpop.com, the pop music portal, has announced several additions

to its management line-up.



The site has recruited John Mais, previously managing director of

industry market research specialists MRIB, to oversee the commercial

division, with responsibility for Worldpop’s chart activity.



Journalists Rob da Bank and Lindsay McWhinnie join from Muzik magazine

to become dance editor and managing editor respectively.



The former general manager at Warner Music UK, Phil Knox-Roberts, joins

as head of music business development. Gary Pitt, formerly business

development manager of peoplesound.com, becomes head of business

development and Kate Grady has joined from Scoot.com as Worldpop’s new

media business manager.



The appointments take Worldpop’s staff numbers to 41 and more

appointments are expected later in the month.



Worldpop.com’s aims to be ’the Reuters of pop’, according to chief

executive and chairman, former BBC disc jockey Peter Powell. As well as

interviews and Radio 1/Top of the Pops-style chat, its offerings include

a world singles chart based on sales in 52 countries.



Last week the site announced the signing of Spice Girl Mel C as its

advertising spokeswoman. She will front a national radio, poster and

press campaign.



The web site is also to co-sponsor Mel C’s upcoming UK tour.
