Square Mile director Alistair Mackinnon-Musson has sold his share
in the agency and joined rival Hudson Sandler, taking clients and staff
Mackinnon-Musson joins Hudson Sandler as a board director with a
financial interest in the agency. He brings a roster of 13 clients with
combined annual fees believed to be in the region of pounds 500,000.
At Square Mile, Mackinnon-Musson was one of three shareholding directors
along with joint managing directors Tim Jackaman and Susan Ellis. His
stake of over 20 per cent has been purchased by the remaining directors
and senior employees.
Mackinnon-Musson said he was moving because his clients sought European
support. ’Although Hudson Sandler is privately owned it is linked to the
Grayling Group, its European network and ultimately the Havas
Clients include high street retailer Next for which Mackinnon-Musson has
done financial and corporate PR for 14 years. Other clients include
former chief executive of the Millennium Dome, Jennie Page and the
biotech company PPL Therapeutics.
Two staff are also making the move with Mackinnon-Musson, associate
director Philip Dennis and team assistant Philippa Robeson.
Square Mile managing director Tim Jackaman refused to comment on the
move. His agency is seeking to expand into Europe following ex-Ogilvy
European MD Paul Philpotts’ arrival at the end of 1999.
This is not the first time Mackinnon-Musson has made such a move. He
joined Square Mile four years ago from Financial Dynamics in similar
circumstances, taking clients with him (PR Week, 23 August 1996). At FD
he was one of the agency’s original shareholders and benefited from the
earn-out agreement with the BDDP Group in 1995.
