the hunt for a public affairs consultancy. The listed company, spun off

from electrical retailing giant Dixon’s last year, currently handles its

government relations work in house.

It is understood to have seen presentations from a number of

consultancies, thought to have included Citigate Public Affairs and DLA

Upstream. A spokesman refused to confirm rumours that Freeserve was on

the verge of announcing an appointment, but it is understood that the

dot.com is keen to hire an agency as soon as possible. The company uses

Citigate Dewe Rogerson for its financial PR and Larkspur for consumer

PR.

The spokesman said: ’We have been having discussions internally about

our government relations function but have made no appointment yet. We

are considering outside agents and all other opportunities which have a

bearing on our business.’

Another company source said: ’It wasn’t as formal as a pitch but we have

had some agencies in over the last few weeks.’

The work on offer involves parliamentary monitoring and a European

dimension.

Freeserve now has 1.7 million active users in the UK, and floated on the

stock market last spring.
